Drone sealing solutions : our high-performance solutions for UAVs
Drones, or Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), are frequently exposed to rain, significant pressure variations, and chemical substances.
In this environment, sealing is far from a minor detail. It serves as an essential barrier, protecting mechanical and electronic components from external weather conditions and harsh environments.
As a specialized seal manufacturer for the industry for over 40 years, we provide our expertise to drone and UAV manufacturers.
Why choose a specific seal for drones?
By effectively isolating mechanical parts and electronic circuits from external stressors, you primarily prevent critical failures that could lead to the total loss of the aircraft.
More specifically, rigorous protection allows you to neutralize four major risks to which every device is exposed:
Protection against environmental hazards (IP ratings)
Whether flying over salt-saturated coastal zones, dusty deserts, or corrosive industrial sites, professional drones must demonstrate absolute resistance to weather conditions.
To guarantee their integrity, most professional drones feature at least an IP55 protection rating. This level of protection relies heavily on the sealing quality of the enclosures.
By hermetically sealing the housing, moisture and particles are prevented from reaching the flight controllers or the Electronic Speed Controllers (ESC), and are kept from causing short circuits in the lithium batteries.
Managing pressure and temperature variations
In flight, a drone can experience numerous temperature and pressure fluctuations due to rapid changes in altitude. This can create what is known as the "pumping effect": the air seeks to equalize between the inside and outside of the drone's frame.
In this context, the reliability of the seal is important. The seal must be able to withstand a temperature variation from -40°C to +80°C to guarantee the integrity of the housing.
Vibration neutralization
The drone market is now largely dominated by onboard imaging systems. For these devices, the major challenge is to eliminate visual distortions caused by propulsion vibrations (the "Jello Effect").
This phenomenon is directly linked to the quality of the mounting interfaces. If the seals supporting the gimbal or optical sensors lack reliability, the image wobble can be amplified.
Therefore, the choice of material, particularly the Shore hardness of the elastomer, becomes a critical point. This rigorous selection will guarantee stable video streams, flight after flight.
Chemical resistance
Whether for agricultural spraying or thermal maintenance missions, drones can be exposed to constant chemical aggression.
Pesticides, fertilizers and hydrocarbons are corrosive substances that directly attack the integrity of polymers. In such environments, a standard seal is not only insufficient, but can also compromise the device's watertightness.
We select high-performance elastomers, such as NBR, EPDM, FVMQ, FKM and others, specifically for their chemical inertness. These materials are able to retain their mechanical properties and elastic memory without swelling or disintegrating, even after prolonged exposure to aggressive fluids.

High-performance materials for drone sealing: our expertise
Depending on the specific needs of your drone design project, we offer a range of suitable materials. Among the most commonly used are: VMQ, fluorosilicone, EPDM, PU/PE foam, and FKM.
- Silicone and fluorosilicone: for flexibility and fuel resistance.
- EPDM: ideal for outdoor exposure and UV radiation.
- Technical foams: for lightweight compression without adding weight to the structure.
- Precision cutting: showcasing our capabilities (waterjet cutting, laser cutting, molding) for complex shapes.
| Materials | Density (weight) | Thermal resistance | Typical use |
| VMQ | Low | -60°C to +200°C | housing sealing |
| FVMQ | Medium | -60°C to +175°C | thermal drones |
| EPDM | Low | -45°C to +150°C | outdoor inspection |
| FKM | High | -20°C to +200°C | specific military applications |
These values are indicative. As a manufacturer, we can adjust the hardness (Shore A) and density via specific formulations to optimize the weight/performance ratio of your drones.
